Spectacle lenses

Specialised optical lenses for myopia control

Latest research has developed specialised technology that is incorporated in spectacle lenses to help slow down myopia progression.

They use a unique and innovative optical design that incorporates a series of small segments on the lens surface that provide different levels of defocus to the eye. The segments on the lens surface create a blurred image in the peripheral (side) vision, while the central part of the lens provides clear vision. This creates a signal to the eye that triggers a process called "peripheral myopic defocus," which has been shown to slow down the growth of the eyeball of myopic children. The lenses have a high success rate and the areas of defocus are easily adapted to by children.

These lenses are coated with a specialised multi-coat which has many benefits including, dust, scratch and smudge resistance, UV protection, anti-reflective properties to cut out glare.

The lenses offer a safe and non-invasive option to manage myopia progression.

It is important to note that while these lenses have been shown to be effective in slowing down the progression of myopia in children, they are not a cure for myopia and may not stop its progression entirely. Therefore, it is important to have regular eye exams with an optometrist to monitor the progression of myopia and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

In addition to wearing these lenses, children can also benefit from other measures to help control myopia, such as spending more time outdoors, taking regular breaks when reading or using electronic devices, and practicing good visual hygiene habits, such as holding reading material at a comfortable distance and maintaining good posture.
