In my 100% independent practice, eye care is so much more than just checking your prescription or handing you a new set of glasses. It’s about understanding you as an individual, putting your health first, and exploring every possible way to maintain or improve your vision. Many patients come to us after years of being told they need a stronger prescription, often unaware of other effective management options—especially when it comes to myopia control.
Myopia, or short-sightedness, can be managed through various well-researched and effective treatments beyond the standard glasses approach. Options like orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses, specially designed spectacle lenses, soft contact lenses, and medicated eye drops have been shown to slow its progression. These treatments aren’t just available; they’re backed by years of research and recommended in optometric guidelines. Yet, time and again, I meet patients who have never heard of them. This gap between available treatments and what patients are told stems largely from the corporatisation of eye care, where selling glasses often takes priority over recommending the right, tailored management.
It’s no surprise, then, that many patients are astonished or even a bit sceptical when I explain that these advanced treatments are tried, tested, and considered best practices in managing progressive myopia. Some wonder if they’re experimental or unsafe, simply because they haven’t been mentioned before. But these aren’t new or risky; they’re established methods that offer far better long-term outcomes than just updating your glasses prescription year after year. Personally, I know I would want a professional who offers me all available options for my condition and then guides me, explaining the benefits and risks of each so I can make an informed decision about my health.
In many other practices, front staff are under pressure to meet sales targets and KPIs, and this often leads to recommendations for extras and upgrades that don’t necessarily serve the patient’s best interests. The result? Patients leave with no more knowledge than they came in with, having been offered a quick fix rather than a real solution. Worse still, they’re often given glasses that might be doing more harm than good, with no understanding that other options exist. In cases like myopia, this means patients can experience worsening vision year after year without knowing there is a better way.
That’s why my practice is centered on transparency, choice, and patient education. When you visit us, you’ll not only receive a thorough eye exam but also walk away with a deeper understanding of your vision and all the options available to you. This isn’t about quick diagnoses or sales pitches; it’s about you having the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions that align with your lifestyle and goals.
Booking a consultation with us means receiving care that’s comprehensive and backed by the latest technology, allowing us to detect subtle changes in your vision that aren’t visible to the naked eye. We offer a wide range of high-quality frames, lenses, and contact lenses. But, more importantly, we’re here to provide unbiased, genuine medical advice, without any high-pressure sales tactics.
Vision is more than just sight. It’s an intricate part of how you interact with and understand the world, and it involves aspects of perception and brain health. That’s why we also offer vision training activities to support and sustain your visual abilities.
If you’re ready for an eye care experience that prioritises your health, values your understanding, and respects your choices, we’re here to make that happen.
