Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness or hypermetropia, is a refractive error in which the eye has difficulty focusing on nearby objects. This occurs when the shape of the eye causes light to focus behind the retina, instead of directly on it. As a result, objects that are close to the eye may be harder to focus on. People with hyperopia may experience symptoms such as headaches, eyestrain, and difficulty reading or doing close work.
Hyperopia can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam and can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. In some cases, refractive surgery may also be an option.
