MiSight Contact Lenses

Specialised soft contact lenses

MiSight contact lenses are a type of soft contact lens designed for myopia control in children. They use a special optical design that creates a "myopic defocus" on the retina, which can help to slow down the progression of myopia.

The lenses are designed clear central zone, surrounded by a series of defocus rings that create a slightly blurred image on the retina in the peripheral vision. This myopic defocus sends a signal to the eye to slow down the growth of the eye, which is responsible for the progression of myopia.

MiSight lenses are worn during the day and are replaced daily, like other disposable contact lenses. They also have a UV blocking feature to protect the eyes from harmful UV radiation.

Several clinical studies have shown that MiSight lenses can be highly effective in slowing down the progression of myopia in children. For best results, MiSight lenses should be worn daily for at least 10-12 hours per day. It is important to follow the recommended wearing schedule and replace the lenses daily, as wearing them for longer periods or reusing them can increase the risk of eye infections or other complications.

It is important to note that while MiSight lenses have been shown to be effective in slowing down the progression of myopia in children, they are not a cure for myopia and may not stop its progression entirely. Therefore, it is important to have regular eye exams with an optometrist to monitor the progression of myopia and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

In addition to wearing MiSight lenses, children can also benefit from other measures to help control myopia, such as spending more time outdoors, taking regular breaks when reading or using electronic devices, and practicing good visual hygiene habits, such as holding reading material at a comfortable distance and maintaining good posture.
